A visual meditation on change and the possibility of rebirth, THE TREES documents the journey of over 400 Swamp White Oaks from their temporary home in New Jersey to the World Trade Center Memorial Plaza in New York.
Taking a cue from the film’s tagline “Growing a forest at ground zero,” the goal of the key art is to showcase the lasting, yet ever-changing 9/11 memorial while also remembering the reason for its creation. Set against a vibrant blue sky at sunrise, the artwork features multiple rows of hand painted water-colored trees that are full of life and reaching for the sky. Illuminated by the early morning sun, their trunks cast long shadows which stretch away from the center and form the fallen twin towers, providing a tribute to both 9/11 and the memorial itself.
